Complete Media Sampling

AGES staff members have completed hundreds of projects involving the assessment, delineation and clean-up of impacted solid media, including soil, concrete, paint, sediment and non-porous surfaces. We are knowledgeable of the collection of concrete and paint chips for disposal, as well as the completion of template-based wipe sampling. Our experience ranges from small projects to those including thousands of square feet of impacted concrete and hundreds of cubic yards of impacted soil.

Immunoassay Field Testing

Our staff has pioneered the use of immunoassay field testing kits to screen soil and concrete samples in the field. These kits employ a two (2) step sample analysis system that can be used to provide real-time field analytical results that correlate with lab results. As a result, we are able to identify samples that contain PCBs greater than a pre-determined limit (e.g. 1 ppm, 25 ppm or 50 ppm). The field testing results provide a quick means to determine whether additional removal of affected media is required prior to confirmatory sampling for standard laboratory analysis. We have successfully applied this technology on numerous projects to eliminate costly re-digs and remobilizations, reduce the volume of soil excavated and associated disposal cost, and cut the time frames for remedial projects by 50% or more.

Development and Preparation of PCB Mega-Rule Plans

Our knowledge of the unique sampling requirements of the PCB Mega-Rule have allowed us to developed numerous, U.S. EPA-approved PCB Mega-Rule Plans for our clients.  Each site and scenario is different and each PCB Mega Rule Plan is unique to the project site and situation.  Recently, we have developed several self-implementing cleanup plans, which have led to agency approval of our selected PCB remedial approach.  Following completion of the approved remedial action, we concluded each project with Clean-up Completion Reports for U.S. EPA review.
